Thing happend

Yesterday was a typical day in June, partially raining with misty air surrounding us. I came to ED as usual, but something was going on.

I received a call from Tongue with a shocking news, one of our good friend's BF committed a suicide, he jumpped off the high building and died instantly on the impact to the ground. I am dealing these kinda stuff all the time, but it never happened to soneone that I may personally know.

I was calm after hearing the news, what was I supposed to say? Live or dead, a matter of thought to some people, can we do something? I just hope that S can go through this tragedy without causing more pain that alerady there.

Then, Kuper told me at home that Super officially broke up with LU. I feel sorry for both, but it is a decision I only can respect.

This is life, people come and go, and die. How about love? I am lucky and glad I found my true love and just wanna bless those people who are still seeking on the road.

接近半夜抵達祕魯利馬機場待到凌晨快四點才去Cruz del Sur 的車站搭車前往第一個目的地 Parakas 搭船出海參觀所謂"窮人的Galapagos島(達爾文進化論的小島、充滿了多樣化的生物）" Islas Ballestas

第一天就是搭飛機啦第一次搭華航頭等艙很舒服較特別的事是有熱湯可以喝當然座椅是躺平的這趟旅行花了75000里數只需付稅金平常貢獻華航那麼多總算得到一些回饋！

澎園科聚餐 Department dinner gathering

好久沒有來澎園辦科聚餐，剛好下個月的望年會是要在這裡舉行，總醫師們也就順便來考察一下場地和菜色。這次來了三桌半的人，算是蠻多的，菜色不錯，不過因為望年會殺價殺得厲害，屆時吃的可能沒有那麼好！

For a long time that we haven't been here for department dinner gathering, next month we are gonna have our farewell party here, so chief residents came to check out the place and foods as well tonight. There were 3 1/2 tables people shown up, quiet a lots people, foods were good, but they may not be the same for the year-end farewell party because we got deep discount on it!

昨天一群好友到家裡聚會慶生我就要正式邁入中年時代真是百感交集快樂的是有好友在旁感慨的是時間飛逝而且還有人稱我是"老人"
我們的home趴是健康型的那種沒有一進門大家先領個塑膠袋裝衣服 (如果你知道我在說什麼....) 我們把櫃子裡的紅酒汽泡酒喝完這次"水電工"姍姍來遲不過很幸運沒有再次需要他的服務我的洗手台也逃過了一劫
home趴早早結束因為有人要趕赴其他趴有人要明天出國我也要早睡早起來上班謝謝大家了! 也辛苦我的小寶貝.

Last night friends gathered in my condo for my Birthday party. I am entering the middle age, my mind just fills with mixed feelings, feeling good of having good friends around, sad about the rapid passage of time, someone even calls me an "old man".
Our home party was a "healthy one", no one received a plastic beg when coming to the condo. (if you know what i am talking about...). we drank red wines and sparkling wine of my cabinet, the "plumber" came fashionably late, but we didn't require his service at this time, my sink was lucky enough to miss the potential disaster.
The party ended early, someone going to other party, someone going abroad tomorrow, I needed to go to bed early so going to work early tomorrow...Thanks to everyone, and specially to my little babe.

醫學中英文口譯人員 Medical English Chinese translator

剛剛結束五天的醫學中英文口譯工作這已經是第三次受邀擔任“專業“口譯人員說專業也沒有那專業因為我從來沒有接受過真正的口譯專業訓練所以也不是大家想像那樣的好更談不上聯合國那種最高等的即時同步翻譯我做的是逐句口譯雙向英文翻中文或中文翻英文
這三次參與JCI國際醫院評鑑裡面分為三大組醫療組護理組和行政組個人覺得是行政組最吃力因為內容範圍最廣闊除了醫院行政其實大部份是在醫院硬體部份的評估所以包含到很多建築事物及醫療設備很傷腦筋的！

以下是我的三次經驗的感想

第一要和業主確認口譯的模式口譯可大烈分為兩種形式一是意譯 to interpret 就是把意思表達出來另一種是翻譯 to translate 就是逐字翻成另一語言這為什麼很重要？因為每位業主的口譯需求不同以醫院評鑑為例評鑑委員一開始就交代所有口譯人員須逐字翻譯就算對方答非所問仍要據實翻譯這樣他們才能真實了解對方的想法口譯者不能加入或刪剪其內容在第二次的口譯工作就發生有口譯人員當場多次被委員糾正提醒的尷尬情形一旦口譯人員不被業主信任會增加三方的困擾如果嚴重的話甚至會有被要求撤換的可能那就更難堪了！

另外做翻譯( to translate)時須以第一人稱口譯其內容這也是翻譯時口譯人員最常犯的錯誤口譯者會沒有警覺到常常就跳入意譯的模式用“他說他要大家知道........." 而不是“我要大家知道......"

如果遇到聽不懂或不清楚就要提問不能怕沒有面子就“亂翻譯“

最後還要有理貌尊重其他口譯人員不要自作主張隨意“補充“其他口譯人員的內容一會被業主誤解口譯人員自行篡改內容二是對原口譯者這是很粗暴的侮辱暗示他的語言能力不足

其實還有蠻多的心得真是每行都有本難念的經以後有空在寫啦！

I t has been a wonderful week for me! my whole life was never like this before. I was asked to keep the secret of what happened, I promised it, so I won't be able to discuss thing in detail. Nevertheless, I wanna share good luck and feeling with everyone, wishing you all have something nice happen to you.
On top of that, my buddy Brian sent me "Ugly Betty season 2" DVD, he is such a sweet guy, caring and gentle. He remembered I bought "Ugly Betty season 1" when I was in his place early this year for his wedding. and he knew I just loved that TV show. It really cheers me up as he stated in his mail.
For those who haven't seen the show, go get it or rent it, it is available locally the season 1 with Mandarin subtitles.

嚇出一身汗 scare hell of me!

早上洗澡脫衣時鏡子裡看身體背後突然發現屁股靠近菊花的地方有一塊膚色變得很蒼白非常顯著
“這是怎麼一回事？“
我實在是有點不太能相信。再仔細看一下，心裡越來越毛，
“不會吧，不是什麼squamous cell carcinoma?"
當醫師就是這個壞處，什麼不想，有問題馬上想到最可怕的鑑別診斷

洗完澡，躺在床上，翻來翻去，就是睡不著，一直在想那裡是怎麼一回事？想到皮膚科學弟蔡宗樺，上網查一下他的門診，有耶，就是現在早上。於是電腦掛號，下床衣服穿上，就搭捷運去亞東醫院。

學弟看過後，告訴我，不是什麼squamous cell cancer 。啊我太高興了！
之後因為太久沒有看到學弟，又跟學弟寒暄ㄧ會兒，回到家已經是下午一點多了。

趕快回到床上一躺就睡著了因為晚上又要上班！就這樣過了一個嚇人的早上！

While I was undressing for shower, I noted a pale patch near my ass on the mirror, the lesion was so obvious. "What's going on here?"
I was hard to swallow this incidental finding, looking at the lesion, i just felt the whole thing scary and creepy.
No way... is it squamous cell carcinoma?
I guess the pitfall of being a doctor is always thinking the worse diagnosis.

After shower, lying on the bed, just couldn't help to think about this thing, a dermatologist colleague Tsai TH came to my mind. I checked his schedule on internet, and he had clinic hour this morning. I booked it right away, and jumped off the bed, got dressed and left home to hospital.

After evaluation, TH told me it was not squamous cell cancer.... I was so happy!
I chatted with TH for a while because we hadn't seen each other for a long time. When I got home, it was past one o'clock pm already.

I crushed on my bed and felt asleep right away. I had to work again tonight.
That's how I spent a terrified morning.

It was like this in my ED, a grandma came to hospital because she had a very painful nail injury.

RN: grandma, what happened to you?
Grandma: oh, I got kicked on my big toe by a worker in the store

....the fun part was that RN didn't understand "worker" in Taiwanese... and asked gnradma What is "worker" ....

三年後我又回來這裡了！因為朋友一直抱怨蘋果的網站很不友善、螢幕會當機、彩球一直跑、是沒錯我也覺得很不可思議。。。。。

其實最近我對部落格是完全沒有在經營、偷懶的不行、去冰島的影片也被我冷凍中待處理。我到底是在忙什麼？

工作是都還老樣子、倒是認識了一些新朋友、ㄧ群很不錯的朋友。也遇上喜歡的人、不過沒有happy ever after結果、倒是對自己又多了解一些、知道我自己要甚麼、要如何去做。

就這樣了！今天學會玩 plurk 很有趣！

I am back 3 years after I left here, it is because my friends all dislike my Apple's website, it is unfriendly, freezes the screen, and keeps the color ball spinning..... that's all true, i found it unbelievable as well............

The truth is I neglected totally my blog recently, being so so lazy, the travel film is frozen in my closet, what have I been doing these days?

Work is still the same, I got to make new friends, a group of good people. I also met someone that I liked but no happy-ever-after ending for us. I learned little more about myself, knowing what I want, how to approach it.

That's my briefing, I learned how to plurk today, it was fun!

說台語 Speaking Taiwanese

前幾天我用台語問病患懶趴會痛嗎？事後護士美眉覺得我的台語很俗又有力又有一次我跟他們說小便的台語不是“燒便“ 那是北京台語翻譯產生的台語沒有所謂的小便正確就是說尿 “ㄧㄡ“ 用台語問大號正不正常用“逮便“也是很典型北京台語直接翻譯的話事實上“棒賽“才是正統的台語美眉們覺得"ㄧㄡ“和“賽“很粗俗其實我一點都不覺得因為現在很少人這樣說久而久之就變成非主流不雅的用詞他們真的俗不雅嗎？我覺得台語是很美麗的語言

另一個有趣且經典的就是 “大小便失禁“ 那台語要怎麼說ㄋ？謎底下次揭曉有跟我上班的人都應該會聽過

Few days ago, I asked a patient if his ball hurts in Taiwanese, Later nurses told me it sounded vulgar & strong. Another occasion, I told nurses the right way to say urine in Taiwanese, and explained to them that a lots "Taiwanese" they say were not correct, because they were directly translated from madarin, like Madarin-Taiwanese. It is their feeling that some Taiwnaese words sound really low and vulgar, I don't agree. I think it is because we don't use them often enough. People are not used to them. I think Taiwanese is a beautiful language.

Another fun phrase is " bowel and urine incontinence", how to say it in Taiwanese? I will tell you next time, those who has been working with me recently probably heard me saying that already.

昨天有位護士美媚跟一位喘的阿媽用台語說等一下要給你痔瘡的藥你知道他要說什麼嗎？

其實他是要說止喘（機竄）不是痔瘡（抵ㄘㄥ）北京台語說快一點真的會會錯意

Last night, a nurse told an elder patient who has trouble breathing in Taiwanese “I am gonna give you hemorrhoid med", Do you know what she really meant to say?

Actually, she meant "to improve breathing" not " hemorrhoid". When you speak Taiwanese with a madarin accent, it is easy to cause confusion.

Be a nice guy or a good guy? 當個好人或正直的人？

There is a fine line between a nice guy and a good guy? What am I? A nice guy or a good guy? Or I should rephrase the question, do I want to be a nice guy or a good guy?

I can think instantly a lots "good" reasons being a nice guy; people would love to hang out with you; people feel relax at your side; no hard time; no argument; no embarrassment; no criticism.

I can also think of some reasons for being a good guy: being fair; being responsible; being helpful. But there are downsides, people may see you hard and tough, not easy going and laughable sometimes.

I still don't have a definite answer yet; I pretty much act on my instinct, maybe more on good guy side. Sound like a bad choice. I remember Gigi told me once it was a bad choice but a right one.

So there is a fine line between them? I doubt it.

And I know I preach too much sometimes on residents, sorry guys! need to bear with me :)

I had chance to talk few residents about few things , one that we talked about was not happy being in this department. This is not a new issue, I always have a slight different perspective. Residency is a training program, this is a very fundamental concept, so I think resident should be more concerned of if I am capable of, or well prepared to be an attending physician. I don't know how many of them really give a thought of that, such as that should I am able to handle a miscommunicated case, to make family and patients to be on our side, rather than be hostile and threatening. When a situation rises, most of residents will just assume senior physicians would take over and solve the problem. Few will try to step aside and learn how to deal with this issue. Residents like to complain they have long hours and not enough vacation. They are important issue but they should not be the only focuses in their minds. From another point of view, is it really that bad the hour here? Did they not have their vacation time? There is an old saying " Moon is rounder in foreign country than in hometown".
I am not defending the department policy, I am not the boss and I don't and can't make any policy neither. All I want to say is residents need to be more broad minded, look further with open view. A wise man sees issue from all different angles.

Anyway, this is all just my opinion. You don't need to feel the same way!

Tenía ocasión de hablar a los residentes sobre pocas cosas, Una de las cosas que hablamos fue no estar feliz en el departamento. Esto no es una nueva cosa, tengo siempre una alguna distinta perspectiva. La residencia es un programa de entrenamiento, esto es un concepto muy fundamental, así que pienso que el residente debe ser preocupado más de si soy capaz de, o ser preparado bien para ser médico. No sé cuántos de ellos realmente eatan pensando de eso, por ejemplo si puedo manejar el caso malo comunicado, para hacer que la familia y los pacientes estar en nuestro lado, más bien que sea hostil y amenazado. Cuando se encuentra una situación dificil, la mayoría de residentes apenas asumiran que los médicos mayores asumirían el control y solucionaran el problema, pocos residentes intentarán aprender cómo tratar de los problemas. Los residentes gustaria quejarse ellos tienen largases horas y no bastantes vacaciones. Son asuntos importante pero no deben ser los únicos focos en sus mentes. Desde otro punto de vista, ¿ es realmente tan malo la hora aquí? ¿No han tenido sus tiempos de las vacaciones? Hay un viejo refrán "luna es más redondo en país extranjero que en la ciudad natal". No estoy defendiendo la política del departamento, no soy el jefe y no puedo hacer ninguna política ni unos ni otros. Lo único que quiero decir es que los residentes debe haber mentes más amplios, mirada más lejos con la visión abierta. Un hombre sabe verá el problema de todos los diversos ángulos.

De todas formas, éste es todo apenas mi opinión. ¡Usted no necesita sentir la misma manera!

感謝龍王颱風讓我在急診渡過小平安夜也有機會把“在天堂遇見的五個人“這本書看完我並不是會常常看書的那種人（我指和工作無關的書籍）因為一是實在沒有很多的時間二是就算要看書也是先從一般育樂性雜誌開始不會就找本文學性質的想想我還真是有點膚淺...

六月布來恩來台灣玩看到我的書架裡有本達文西密碼我們就閒聊起來這本書說著說著他就跟我說起這位作者其他的著作頓時我就接不下去話題因為我也才看完過這唯一ㄧ本他寫的書心裡真是欽佩他還有時間看其他的書那麼有文化修養

讀後心得: 讓我們對周遭的人事物有新的看法值得一看

Thanks to typhoon Longhuang, I had a relatively peaceful night at work, because of that I could finish my reading on "the five people you meet in heaven". I am not that kind of person who reads regularly ( I mean non-medical related materials). Simply I don't have plenty of time and secondly I would rather read more general and entertaining stuff then literature ones. Sound pretty shallow? I am shallow in a way......

Brian came to visit me last June, he saw the book " the Da Vinci code" on my bookshield, we started taked about this book. Later the talk shifted to author's other books, I couldn't follow the conversation then, I only read one of his many popular books. I wish I had more time to read just like Brian did, and being a literature cultivated person.

My comment on this book: thought provoking writing, make people see things surrounding us differently. reading is recommended.

I started this blog and my website last year for no particular reason, more like a trend follower ( because everyone was doing that). I used mainly English as I did not expect any Chinese readers initially, now I try to do it bilingually (Chinese-English or English-Spanish),in order to meet the demand from Chinese readers and to practice my Spanish. This change turns out with good response. Some people told me they enjoyed my posting and at the same time they could also learn some English. I am so glad my blog is going well. And thanks for all your support!

昨晚科務會議後大家轉移陣地到餐廳繼續我們的聚會讓大家想不到的是昨天還有兩位壽星在場當然了蛋糕生日歌都跟著出籠了對這麼細心安排的總醫師這麼照顧學弟真是讓我欽佩 After department meeting, we all moved to a local restaurant and continued our informal gathering. What surprised everyone in the restaurant was birthday celebration for 2 members of our ED family. I was impressed of what CR Jekyll had done for this occasion, he is thorough and attentive.

早上一下班走出醫院藍藍的天空加上幾朵陪襯的白雲和溫暖的陽光這是台北市嗎？只可惜我只能回家躺在床上睡覺沒法在外好好享受這麼好的天氣 When I walked out the hospital after work this morning, the clear blue sky with pure white clouds acted as a potent stimulant that made me feel so good and pleasant. 台北
雖然20號夜班上完後離搭機22號晚上10 點的班機好像有很多的時間但是history repeats itself, 我還是忙到出發前兩小時才有時間整理行李仍是有很多事沒有辦雨傘也忘了帶說要家裡打掃一下也完全沒做到 J很準時的開車來接我路上打電話回家報備本來說要回去一趟也沒有兩個月沒有回家了媽媽如往常的一樣叮嚀外出旅行要注意小心 so on ....... 八點半到機場辦完手續就到華航貴賓室報到貴賓室去年底重新裝潢也增加了浴室設施我先去洗個澡之後就點了現煮牛肉麵連續吃了兩碗因為晚餐也沒有時間吃重新裝潢的貴賓室還不錯但是比第二航站的就還差了點姊姊這時也打電話來交代要買化妝品事實上我出國都沒有幫人買或帶東西的習慣因為都是自助行較多行李都自己扛行李越少越好好友親人也都知道所以也不會跟我來這套不過這次姊姊說在搭飛機前的免稅店先買寄放在免稅店回國在入關前領回原來免稅品也有這樣的買法不用當行李扛來扛去又多學了一件事

飛機上
花了30000點里數升等到商務艙放眼一看還全滿機上晚餐點選了牛排當主菜味道非常不錯吃的很飽結果一吃完就躺平睡著了果然4小時後胸口悶痛醒過來原因是消化不良我只好椅子豎直坐著睡了我回程的時候可就要提醒自己不要又犯同樣的錯誤

第一站維也納 Vienna Wien
第一天
在維也納住三個晚上安排Hilton Vienna, 飛機提早20分鐘抵達仍不到早上6點當地時間跟當地導遊碰面後連同其他6位旅客我們就搭著小巴先來個市區之旅 City tour 第一天的天氣是陰天氣溫大概只有17-18度感覺就像是台北的冬天我們參觀了當地最著名的幾個景點沒有做功課的我完全搞不清楚狀況倒是一家四口的人對相關歷史人物都如數家珍真是令我佩服我也有空時趕快拿出let's Go 惡補一下
大約11點時我們就到旅館辦入房手續到了房間梳洗一下就又到市區去逛逛了
傍晚6點回到旅館洗個澡後就結束了這第一天維也納的行程

第二天
睡了12 小時第二天的早上6點醒來才真正感覺是在放假中因為睡飽精神好心情愉快
今天的天氣則是令人出乎意料之外是個大晴天所以決定早上去雄布朗宮
午餐到Let's Go 介紹的餐廳Smutny吃當地的豬排我點的是套餐一晚細麵線湯加上豬排配當地的馬鈴薯味道蠻不錯最重要是適合我的口味而且價格合理下午則回到市中心閒逛照照相
傍晚回到旅館到三溫暖區泡澡放鬆一下在那裡認識了一位奧地利人名字叫做Gernot 他是住在Innsburg來Vienna接受在職訓練他先用中文你好問候我我們就閒聊起來之後我們約定晚上一起吃飯在吃飯前我們先在旅館的Bar先喝個飲料 Gernot建議喝個開胃酒平常是菸酒不沾的我在他的講解和說明後我也入境隨俗也喝了一杯之後我們去一家在果菜市場的餐廳老店他幫我點了傳統的豬排並且告訴我要加上檸檬吃的時候是和生菜馬鈴薯沙拉一起吃不是先吃完沙拉再吃豬排在吃的時候他又提醒我要喝酒時記得要先擦嘴這樣才不會在酒杯上留下油膩膩的唇印
吃完飯後豬排還蠻大份的吃不玩的我們也打包帶走他另外請店家給我們加上兩份麵包這樣明天午餐三明治就準備好了我們接著到四家不同的Bar玩每一家Gernot都介紹不同的啤酒果我喝我這輩子也沒有喝過這麼多啤酒不過也只有出國旅遊才會有這種雅興半夜12點半搭著地鐵末班車回旅館我們結束有趣的Bar hopping

第三天
早上本來要去Gernot建議的軍事博物館但是竟然是星期五休館所以臨時決定去音樂博物館這個博物館並不是一般性的展覽館他的特點是很多高科技的互動展示和遊戲我最映像深刻的是指揮維也內交響樂團遊戲遊客手上拿著特製的指揮棒先點選你喜歡的樂曲之後對著螢幕開始指揮樂團樂團會跟著你的指揮演奏如果你亂揮一通樂曲會不協調時快時慢真的太差樂團會停指演奏其中一位團員會站起來說 “你指揮的很差不用你樂團也可以自行演奏下去“ 如果順利的指揮完一首曲子螢幕會出現樂團全體起立致謝並且可以購買及格證書我自己試了5首曲子每首都成功跟其他參觀者比較約4--5位才有一位成功我好像蠻有指揮天分（有點臭屁不好意思啦）
中午到Statepark John Strauss 小金人銅像旁野餐這時候天空的烏雲又越來越多
下午到國家歌劇院參觀看一下兩百多年歷史的歌劇院到底長什麼樣子
晚餐到台灣人很喜歡的肋排館吃晚餐

第四天

今天的行程先到薩爾斯堡之後到Zell am See

本來預定要在Salzburg住一晚但是沒有訂到符合預算的旅館加上當地的觀光特點對我沒有很大的吸引力所以決定只做個三小時的city tour在salzburg 所有的觀光景點全部集中在一起從火車站步行20分鐘就到了或許是過於集中的關係整個街道都是人看了一下Mozart出生的地方後覺得這個地方實在太觀光化了頓時興趣大大的降低
下午接近傍晚的時候接著搭火車前往今天的落腳小鎮 Zell am See

實用資訊

在奧地利搭火車如果買的是單程票中途可以下車觀光之後再搭下班車到目的地去（先決條件是中途站是在你的出發點和目的地的路途中）
維也納 - 薩爾斯堡 - Zell am See 如果分兩段買要52歐元直接買從維也納到 Zell am See 只要38歐元

Zell am See 真是個好地方來了之後才知道這是很熱門的渡假勝地因為有山有水小鎮就在湖邊夏天來登山玩水避暑冬天來滑雪其實夏天要滑雪也可以因為這裡有終年冰雪不融的山頂可以滑雪看照片吧

在阿爾卑斯山上修身養性幾天看到如似仙境的自然山林美景心裡不斷的想到小時候的卡通小英的故事 "Heide" 還真是有這種地方

這是一輩子應該去一次的地方

Spent few days in the Alpine mountains, everywhere was so green, so peaceful. It reminded me the TV cartoon "Heide" from my childhood, those heaven-like places do exist.
This is one of the places we all should visit once in our lifetime .... lucky me, been there already and hopefully to go there again.

一位年輕女性來到急診上半身頭部手都不停的抖動檢傷小姐馬上把病患安置在病床上火速的推到診療區因為最擔心還是癲顯發作病患送進入診療區看似跟一般的癲顯發作病患沒有兩樣可是我馬上注意到病患意識很清楚所以腦子裏突然有了不同的想法我叫護士幫病患打一支肌肉安慰劑很神奇的病患症狀就有明顯的改善不久後症狀就停止了後來我問病患剛剛發生什麼事

我回問: "什麼運動?"

最近電視頻道64調整為衛視世界台 Star World ........真是太好了 !!!
之前一直沒有機會觀賞美國的一些熱門節目現在都有機會了包括醫院喜劇 scrubs 戲劇類影集 desperate housewives 訪談節目 Oprah Winfrey Show 等等

Star World channel has been added to my cable TV service (channel 64), I have been waiting for a long time for this service, finally it is here, it means that I can watch some popular shows such as Scrubs, The Apprendice, and Oprah etc.

Few days ago I finally received the letter of confirmation for my oral presentation, I am so excited. There are more than 1000 abstracts submitted this year for the conference, The first letter of acceptances I received long time ago only told me my abstract being accepted but not decided yet should be oral or poster presentation.
I have been working hard on my power point slides and learned a great deal of statistics. (it is challenging!) hoping that my work can have a good score and be on the list of top 40 for future publish in the journals.

Finalmente recibí la letra de la confirmación para mi presentación oral, yo estoy tan excitado. Hay más de 1000 abstractos sometidos este año para la conferencia, la primera letra de aceptacion que recibí hace tiempo largo solamente me dijeron que mi abstracto que es aceptado pero no decidido todavía fuera la presentación oral o del cartel. He estado trabajando mucho en mis diapositivas del power point y he aprendido mucho de la estadística. (es desafiador!) esperando que mi trabajo pueda tener un bueno punto y estar en la lista de la tapa 40 para la futura publication.

吃完早餐後‭ ‬到城裡走耶穌臨死前背十字架所走的最後一段路‭ ‬Via Dolorosa‭ ‬這也讓我突然想起電影受難記‭ ‬也是講有關耶穌死前的故事
12:30 pm
中午12點‭ ‬和Abu約在旅館碰面‭ ‬要去參觀以色列的開墾區‭ ‬settlement和安全圍牆‭ ‬security fences‭. ‬這是一個比較特殊的行程‭(‬Political‭ ‬tour‭ - ‬Jerusalem by Alternative tour 100‭ ‬NIS‭) ‬Abu是一位巴勒斯坦人‭ ‬由他的觀點來介紹外人少知或了解的以色列政府政策‭ ‬以色列的開墾區是以色列政府“徵收“原本住在當地的巴勒斯坦人的土地‭ ‬蓋國宅並以低於市價1/3的價格加上5年免稅的優惠賣給以色列人‭ ‬原本的阿拉伯人就這樣被迫遷移到其他地方也沒有補助‭ ‬家當就這樣無緣無故被充公‭ ‬這樣的以色列的開墾區已經有八百多處‭ ‬因而可知多少巴勒斯坦人變得無家可歸或成為難民‭ ‬Abu說以色列政府最終的目的就是要掌控West Bank‭ ‬因為以色列的水源也在那裡‭ ‬以色列和巴勒斯坦的問題一直是個世界的焦點‭ ‬我以前是沒有什麼概念‭ ‬但是來到耶路撒冷後‭ ‬開始慢慢的了解認識‭ ‬第二站是安全圍牆‭ ‬security fences‭. ‬Abu‭ ‬認為這是隔離圍牆‭ ‬跟安全完全沾不上邊‭ ‬圍牆是建築在阿拉伯人區‭ ‬並不是建在阿拉伯人區和猶太人區的分界處‭ ‬只是增加當地阿拉伯人的交通不便‭ ‬非常多的阿拉伯人必須攀越圍牆上班上課‭ ‬Abu很高興有像我這樣有教育的旅行者educated traveler 關心當地的政治民生發展‭ ‬我們花了一個多小時參觀不同的開墾區和安全圍牆‭ ‬下午快兩點我們回到旅館

今天是這次旅行的最後一天‭ ‬晚上10:30的飛機‭ ‬所以事實上是有一整天的時間‭ ‬早上8點起床‭ ‬吃完早餐後‭ ‬就趕往Dome‭ ‬去‭ ‬走到大馬士革城門‭ ‬發現吵雜熱鬧的情況完全不見了‭ ‬只剩下兩三個小攤販在販售蔬菜‭ ‬傳說中到處都是的荷槍實彈以色列軍人也出現在眼前盤詢一位要入城的巴勒斯坦人‭ ‬我想前兩天是週末的關係‭ ‬星期五是回教的休息日‭ ‬星期六是猶太教的休息日‭ ‬所以有臨時市場的出現‭ ‬雖然今天是星期天‭ ‬已經是當地一週的開始‭ ‬入城後‭ ‬市集沒有週末那麼的熱鬧‭ ‬很多商店也還沒有開張‭ ‬我快速的走過如迷宮一般的街道‭ ‬一路上‭ ‬可以看到巡邏的警察或軍人‭ ‬到達西牆的廣場時‭ ‬則有非常多軍人背著大大的行李包‭ ‬在廣場聊天‭ ‬在以色列‭ ‬男女都需要當兵‭ ‬看情形像是新兵集合的情形‭ ‬因為軍人的數目比光觀光客和居民總和的數目還多‭ ‬我先到Dome的入口‭ ‬因為這是今天最重要的行程‭ ‬但是很不幸的入口的軍人告訴我說因為今天有宗教活動‭ ‬所以不對外開放‭ ‬要我明天7:30早上來‭ ‬我心理是蠻失望的‭ ‬不過根據出發前所收集的資料‭ ‬要進去參觀真的是要靠運氣‭ ‬我只好希望有生之年能再來拜訪‭ ‬昨天因為是猶太的週末‭ ‬西牆是禁止照相的‭ ‬所以今天二度拜訪‭ ‬在入口戴起猶太的小帽‭ ‬就走到人較少的地方‭ ‬我也入境隨俗的一手摸牆‭ ‬跟主導告‭ ‬跟昨天一樣‭ ‬默默的禱告五分鐘後‭ ‬照了相‭ ‬之後到廣場邊休息看著人來人往的居民和遊客‭ ‬和在一旁嬉戲聊天的年輕士兵

在舊城又繞了幾圈‭ ‬接近中午的時候回到旅館‭ ‬整理了一下就辦理退房手續‭ (‬一晚65美元‭ ‬含稅和早餐‭ ‬可用美金付款‭)‬櫃台小姐也跟我確認到機場巴士的時間‭ ‬我就到花園餐廳休息‭ ‬看著旅館所提供有關巴勒斯坦旅遊近況的雜誌‭ ‬整個下午就在旅館的餐廳閱讀也寫日記‭ ‬好不悠閒‭ ‬很久一段時間出國是沒有這麼的懶散‭ ‬什麼都不做‭ ‬就是給自己時間和空間‭ ‬還蠻愉快的
6:00 pm
機場公車（10元美金或等值NIS‭) ‬準時到來‭ ‬花了約一小時的時間到機場‭ ‬機場的感覺很差‭ ‬設備舊‭ ‬安檢的動線也是雜亂無章‭ ‬沒有效率‭ ‬老美真的就做的很有效率‭ ‬沒得比‭ ‬到了辦理報到的櫃台‭ ‬才真是離譜‭ ‬沒有標示航空公司‭ ‬全是以航地勤人員‭ ‬只好找有辦理報到的櫃台‭ ‬20個櫃台只有一個開放‭ ‬八九不離十是這一個‭ ‬但還是先去問了一下‭ ‬確認是約航就排隊等候‭ ‬很高興有要到走道的位子‭ ‬出關後‭ ‬才發現也沒有Priority Pass‭ ‬貴賓室‭ ‬我只能說爛到極點‭ ‬非常不友善的機場‭ ‬據說因為新的航站明天就要啟用‭ ‬因為目前的已經是不堪負荷使用又缺點多 (待續）

早上六點半起床‭ ‬外面沒有熟悉的陽光‭ ‬洗玩臉拿著照相機和攝影機就到海邊去‭ ‬我最擔心的事發生了‭ ‬相機竟然當機‭ ‬不知道是記憶卡的問題還是機子‭ ‬心裡只期望前兩天的心血不要就這樣子泡湯了‭ ‬抬頭一看‭ ‬天空佈滿了烏雲‭ ‬我想不久後應該會下雨‭ ‬在海裡這麼早已經有人游泳‭ ‬水還是那麼的清澈見底
8:30 am
吃完早餐後‭ ‬8:30就在旅館大廳和haldron碰面‭ ‬這時候天空已經開始飄雨‭ ‬Haldron很高興這樣的天氣‭ ‬因為很涼爽‭ ‬適合他把車子一路開回阿曼‭ ‬我可就有點傷腦筋了‭ ‬根據旅遊聖經Lonely Planet‭ ‬跨越以約邊界可是有段路要走‭ ‬沒有傘又要拖個行李箱的我‭ ‬要是雨越下越大‭ ‬我不就要變成落湯雞‭ ‬邊界的路不大‭ ‬像是鄉間小路‭ ‬Haldron載我到邊防關卡後‭ ‬天氣也變得比較好了‭ ‬這時心情也好了許多‭ ‬邊界停車場有數輛遊覽車在等候從以色列來的旅客‭ ‬根據規定‭ ‬目前以約車輛不能到對方的領土‭ ‬所以所有的旅客都必須在邊界換車‭ ‬有數個白人旅行團從以色列過來‭ ‬只有我一個人是要到以色列去‭ ‬約旦關卡倒是蠻簡單輕鬆‭ ‬繳了出關費五元蓋個章就說再見約旦‭ ‬走了約100公尺的中界區來到了以色列關防‭ ‬一位年輕女性很禮貌的跟我說歡迎到以色列‭ ‬並問我要不要喝水‭ ‬之後他告訴我通關的三步驟‭ ‬我又往前走了50公尺‭ ‬來到第一站安全檢查‭ ‬總共有兩男一女‭ ‬花了約15分鐘問問題和檢查行李‭ ‬問的一些問題有點可笑‭ ‬也要求看我的名片職員證‭ ‬我心裡不得好奇的想問他們‭ ‬都是中文你們看得懂嗎‭ ‬事實上我也都沒有帶在身上‭ ‬我告訴他們我不是要參加醫學相關會議‭ ‬不會帶這些東西在身上‭ ‬不過我也蠻佩服他們的敬業精神‭ ‬為了國家的安全‭ ‬這些不便民的措施也是有必要的‭ ‬我個人也能認同他們的做法‭ ‬雖然徒增旅客的困擾‭ ‬但是安全還是第一‭ ‬之後的兩站也都很輕鬆‭ ‬在入關的閘口‭ ‬請警衛叫了輛計程車‭ ‬等了一會兒‭ ‬一輛賓士Taxi出現‭ ‬就上車往市區公車站出發（跳表‭ ‬21.5‭ ‬NIS‭) ‬到達公車站‭ ‬剛好再15分鐘10:00就有車出發往耶路薩冷‭ (‬65‭ ‬NIS‭)‬‭ ‬時間還真是很巧

車子裡約坐滿一半的人‭ ‬司機穿的很專業‭ ‬襯衫打領帶‭ ‬一路上在交流道口都有巴士站牌供乘客上下車‭ ‬車子就沒有我們的長途巴士舒服‭ ‬連廁所都沒有‭ ‬司機還在某個交流道口巴士站停車‭ ‬不是要上下乘客‭ ‬是讓一位中年男士在路邊小號‭ ‬今天巴士原本預定走死海的路線‭ ‬但是在第一個休息站時‭ ‬司機被通知此路不通‭ ‬所以我們又回頭多花了快兩小時的車程走山路‭ ‬整個車程約六個多小時‭ ‬一般約五小時就OK‭ ‬唯一值得安慰的是有經過著名的峽谷‭ ‬坐在我前面一位名字叫Marc的中年男子‭ ‬則是一路擔心巴士是否會在日落前（約下午5點後）到達‭ ‬因為今天是星期五‭ ‬日落後就是Sabbath（猶太週末）所有的活動都會停了下來‭ ‬連公車都沒有‭ ‬一直到明天日落後才會恢復活動‭ ‬我乍聽之下‭ ‬也是有點擔心‭ ‬趕快把書拿出來看有關Sabbath的介紹‭ ‬事實是跟Marc講的一樣‭ ‬星期五和星期六在以色列旅行是很不方便的‭ ‬不過這個時候似乎也無法做什麼‭ ‬擔心也是無用的‭ ‬我們又閒聊一下‭ ‬他在耶路撒冷還沒有落腳的地方‭ ‬所以要跟我一起去我預訂的旅館‭ ‬我告訴他旅館就叫做Jerusalem Hotel是在東耶路撒冷區也稱做阿拉伯人區‭ ‬他表示沒有意見‭ ‬他的頭上有戴一頂猶太的小帽‭ ‬所以應該是猶太人‭ ‬我是對他或猶太人沒有任何偏見‭ ‬只是我要落腳的地方是印象中是阿拉伯人經營的旅館‭ ‬他可以接受嗎？‭ ‬我心理大概有個答案

4:30 pm
終於抵達耶路撒冷中央車站‭ ‬下了車‭ ‬Marc還真的就跟著我走‭ ‬問我要搭公車還是計程車‭ ‬看天色已經漸暗‭ ‬商店都已經關門‭ ‬雖然公車站就在旁邊‭ ‬Marc建議搭計程車‭ ‬因為是兩個人平均分擔也不會很多‭ ‬接受他的建議‭ ‬叫了第一輛車子‭ ‬開價要一人20NIS‭ ‬（約180台幣）‭ ‬行李都放到後車廂了‭ ‬我說太貴了‭ ‬Marc覺得還好‭ ‬但是我堅持要換車‭ ‬Marc一副不太能接受的樣子‭ ‬但也是只好把行李給拿了下來‭ ‬他問我為什麼說貴‭ ‬我指著Lonely Planet書‭ ‬這裡寫的‭ ‬市區不跳表最多也25‭ ‬NIS‭ ‬以色列的計程車是出名削觀光客的高手‭ ‬我寧願多給小費‭ ‬也不要助長這種風氣‭ ‬第二輛計程車就誠實許多‭ ‬一輛車要價25NIS‭ ‬而且知道我要住的旅館‭ ‬不到5分鐘‭ ‬就到了旅館的門口‭ ‬我下車拿行李時‭ ‬發現Marc注意到旅館招牌上的阿拉伯文‭ ‬自動把猶太帽拿下來且面有難色‭ ‬他問司機是否知道猶太區便宜的旅館‭ ‬司機說知道‭ ‬於是他就搭原車離開‭ ‬我給了他15‭ ‬NIS‭ (‬身上沒有剛好的零錢‭ ‬2.5‭ ‬NIS就當是給他賺到‭)‬

下禢的旅館是阿拉伯舊式石屋改裝的精緻旅館‭ ‬旅館雖然小但是保持的很好‭ ‬
裡面是傳統濃厚的阿拉伯風格裝潢‭ ‬是我住過最有當地特色的一家旅館‭ ‬房間並不大‭ ‬但是衛浴設備很新乾淨‭ ‬有衛星電視和免費的寬頻網路可用‭ ‬真是符合我的需求‭ ‬最重要的是他的地點就在耶路撒冷舊城大馬士革城門200公尺的地方‭ ‬要參觀耶路撒冷舊城走路五分鐘就到‭ ‬不用煩惱旅館和耶路撒冷舊城的交通問題
辦完入房手續‭ ‬天色已經暗了‭ ‬但是我還是很興奮的到耶路撒冷舊城去逛一逛‭ ‬走到大馬士革城門‭ ‬發現像是夜市一樣‭ ‬充滿各式的攤販‭ ‬叉雜的叫賣聲加上阿拉伯式的音樂陣陣響耳‭ ‬實在不是我想像中會看到耶路撒冷舊城的第一個景象‭ ‬走入城門後‭ ‬眼前所看到的才是令人震撼‭ ‬全是石塊所打造的建築和鋪的路‭ ‬擁擠的人潮‭ ‬大部分的人穿著傳統阿拉伯式的服裝‭ ‬簡直是時光倒退一千年‭ ‬如果把商店賣的現代商品換成舊時的事物‭ ‬根本是踏入時空隧道一樣‭ ‬看過很多古蹟城堡‭ ‬沒有一個地方仍是像耶路撒冷舊城那麼的生活化‭ ‬就這樣好奇的在城內無目標逛了一個多小時‭ ‬在Jaffa‭ ‬城門的一家Lonely Planet介紹的黎巴嫩餐廳吃了晚餐‭ ‬之後就沿著城牆外圍走回旅館
洗玩澡‭ ‬看一下電視‭ ‬雖然今晚旅館的花園餐廳有現場音樂演奏‭ ‬我的房間也在花園旁‭ ‬我仍就不知不覺的睡著了

今天如前兩天一樣‭ ‬睡到太陽照到臉上‭ ‬起床後吃完早餐‭ ‬就辦理退房‭ ‬今天是要到Wadi Rum‭ ‬不過首先要做的是找加油站加油‭ ‬櫃台的服務員給的方向跟沒有講是差不多‭ ‬我想就往阿曼的方向走‭ ‬應該碰的到加油站‭ ‬果然離該Wadi Musa鎮不遠‭ ‬就有加油站‭ ‬加完油後‭ ‬跟加油生問往Wadi Rum的方向‭ ‬結果是要往回走‭ ‬在進入佩特拉古城前就要左轉‭ ‬就這樣‭ ‬開始Wadi Rum之旅後來我發現原來這條路是佩特拉城的另一邊‭ ‬路上有兩三處景點照相的地方‭ ‬不同的角度看整個佩特拉山谷‭ ‬也看得到佩特拉城最遠最高的Aaron Tomb‭.‬

從佩特拉出發往南走‭ ‬沿著Kings’Highway‭ ‬最後和沙漠公路相接‭ ‬開了約2小時的車程‭ ‬抵達Wadi Rum的旅客中心門口‭ ‬這個旅客中心世新蓋的‭ ‬中心門口仿舊時城門‭ ‬城門的警衛把我攔下來‭ ‬告訴我因為Wadi Rum是已經列入為約旦的自然保護區‭ ‬所以要一元門票‭ ‬我問他哪裡買票‭ ‬他說在中心裡面‭ ‬我只好把車子停到城門邊‭ ‬到旅客中心去‭ ‬在那裡晃了30分鐘‭ ‬心裡一直無法決定是要騎駱駝還是坐吉普車逛沙漠‭ ‬後來想到騎驢子第二天兩個屁股都會有點酸痛‭ ‬還是決定搭車比較好‭ ‬一來也能逛的比較遠‭ ‬去我想看的石橋‭ ‬二來也可以避免晒太陽‭ ‬買了4個小時約40公里路程的行程‭ ‬32約旦幣‭ ‬旅客中心服務員帶我到大門口‭ ‬問我要露天的還是Covered的車子‭ ‬這時我想起來我的車子還停在大門邊‭ ‬我跟服務員說要先去把車子停到停車場停好‭ ‬旁邊警衛卻說不用擔心it is OK‭ ‬我當然選了一輛有車頂的車‭ ‬其實也只剩下一輛有車頂‭ ‬其於是小卡車型‭ ‬乘客像是貨物被載在後面露天車廂‭ ‬司機是一位不會說英文的Bedu‭ ‬服務員跟他接洽後告訴我司機會先開車回他的城鎮加水之後開始行程

搭上車後如服務員所說先到司機的家去‭ ‬在那裡‭ ‬我和他的家人坐在他家的門口喝約旦茶‭ ‬家裡的小孩都跑來看熱鬧‭ ‬我也把我事先準備的糖果分給小朋友‭ ‬看到其中一位吃了起來‭ ‬我突然想起現在是Ramadan齋戒月‭ ‬白天不能吃東西‭ ‬不知道小孩是否有相同規定‭ ‬司機則忙著整理車子‭ ‬半小時後我們又上路了‭ ‬司機路上又在了一位朋友‭ ‬後來才知道司機對景點路線不熟‭ ‬找朋友幫忙‭ ‬
Wadi Rum真的是很美‭ ‬一座座的看似險惡的山‭ ‬有一種說不出的神秘感‭ ‬讓人覺得這個沙漠深不可測‭ ‬阿拉伯的勞倫斯就是在這裡領導當地的人對抗英軍‭ ‬留下一段令人回味無窮的歷史‭ ‬一些地標也以阿拉伯的勞倫斯命名‭ ‬開了一多小時的車程‭ ‬抵達我所唯一知道的地標‭ ‬石橋‭ ‬在那裡休息了半小時‭ ‬我也爬上去到石橋上走‭ ‬不過卻看到讓人心寒的旅客石刻在石橋上‭ ‬最糟糕還有中國兩個字‭ ‬中國的遊客素質真是要在加強
下午3:30回到旅客中心‭ ‬結束了沙漠之旅‭ ‬不過我告訴服務人員這個司機很熱心敬業‭ ‬但是要接受訓練‭ ‬因為5個景點只有去了一處‭ ‬就是石橋‭ ‬其他都沒有去‭ ‬我並不在意去所有景點‭ ‬因為光是在那一望無際的沙漠裡開車閒逛就值回票價‭ ‬出乎我意料之外‭ ‬服務人員對我的意見非常重視‭ ‬馬上和司機溝通並告訴我為了補償‭ ‬我可以選擇退還一半的費用‭ ‬或是正式通報反應‭ ‬這個司機會接受處罰‭ ‬以後無法繼續接客‭ ‬我選擇了退費‭ ‬我並不希望司機因此沒有工作‭ ‬畢竟Bedu的生活還是蠻苦的‭
本來想在旅客中心照點相片‭ ‬看到司機一付很失望的表情‭ ‬我打消主意‭ ‬上車開往阿卡巴

Aqaba‭ ‬約一個小時就到了目的地‭ ‬整個城市的感覺跟阿曼完全不一樣‭ ‬像是新開發的城鎮‭ ‬路旁很多樹‭ ‬市容乾淨整齊‭ ‬市中心很小‭ ‬所以很快的就找到要下搭的旅館‭ ‬Radisson SAS‭ ‬辦理完入房手續‭ ‬（65約旦幣‭) ‬才下午5點‭ ‬就到旅館的海灘上走一走‭ ‬海灘上都是白種人‭ ‬我想我應該是唯一的東方人‭ ‬海灘所看去的是紅海‭ ‬遠遠的地方有大型的貨輪停在海上‭ ‬海水則是不可思議的清澈見底‭ ‬這還時我第一次在海灘上看到這麼的乾淨清晰的海水‭ ‬尤其是在城市兼港口的海邊‭ ‬這樣的水質應是像馬爾地夫才看得到的吧‭ ‬海水有點冷‭ ‬所以沒有下水‭ ‬晚上就在旅館的餐廳吃自助餐（12約旦幣）

晚上在房間整理照片碰到了大問題‭ ‬我無法下載記憶卡上的照片到蘋果電腦上‭ ‬真麻煩‭ ‬可能明天都無法照相了‭ ‬只能用攝影機照相‭ ‬（攝影機的相片品質一般‭ ‬而且看起來像是從電視翻拍下來的）

‬Haldron‭ ‬打電話給我說要跟我拿車並約明天8:30見面要載我去以約邊界‭ ‬我又昏昏迷迷的墜入睡夢中

今天約六點半起床‭ ‬並沒有睡得很好‭ ‬雖然是五星級的旅館‭ ‬枕頭跟三星級的沒有差別‭ ‬本來計畫約七點出發‭ ‬我躺在床上想了一想‭ ‬還是隨興好了‭ ‬安迪和潔西因為要趕回阿曼‭ ‬應該是會按表操課‭ ‬七點出發‭ ‬只要在路上碰的到他們就好了‭ ‬整理一下後‭ ‬我拿著相機就出發到餐廳去‭ ‬沿路上拍了幾張大廳的照片‭ ‬阿拉伯風味‭ ‬我蠻喜歡的‭ ‬相比較之下阿曼的Crown Plaza旅館就顯得毫無特色‭ ‬早餐菜色也比阿曼的Crown Plaza旅館好很多‭ ‬我真覺得阿曼的Crown Plaza旅館應該降級‭ ‬我還是吃我的例行早餐‭ ‬果汁‭ ‬蛋‭ ‬烤麵包‭ ‬牛奶雜糧麥片‭ ‬水果‭ ‬一點當地的東西也沒有‭ ‬吃完後救回房間整理一下‭ ‬辦理退房‭ ‬這時已經是八點半了‭ ‬我把行李放到後車廂‭ ‬帶著風衣‭ ‬水和裝著照相機和攝影機的霹靂袋‭ ‬就開始今天的活動

Movenpick是離Petra最近的旅館‭ ‬只要一分鐘就到入口處‭ ‬也難怪房價之貴的太離譜‭ ‬原本25約旦幣兩天入場卷現在仍是打對折‭ ‬真是太好了‭ ‬近了入口馬上可以看到很多馬伕推銷駱駝或驢子‭ ‬也因為如此‭ ‬地上有蠻多的“黃金“‭ ‬老外稱為地雷‭ ‬而且味道很重
太陽果然是強力放送它的熱量‭ ‬真不愧是中東的太陽‭ ‬我把風衣披在頭上‭ ‬較好像當地人披著大的頭巾一樣‭ ‬走到Siq後‭ ‬暫時可避過太陽‭ ‬從入口處開始‭ ‬我就深深的被這週遭奇特的景觀所迷住‭ ‬其實不是歷史學家的我‭ ‬對Petra的歷史並沒有很大的興趣‭ ‬但是我一直對這些千年古蹟著迷‭ ‬我想要的是現場實境的臨場感‭ ‬感受人類文化的演變‭ ‬見證大自然和古人雙手所創造的奇蹟‭ ‬所以世上太多的東西真的是百聞不如一件‭ ‬文字真是無法百分之百的描述當時的感受
在寶藏廟的地方‭ ‬一位當地人跑來推銷一枚Petra古城的銅幣‭ ‬它說是下雨後泥土沖刷後出土被發現的‭ ‬它要價25約旦幣‭ ‬最後殺到16約旦幣‭ ‬其實心裡在想這真的是真的古錢幣嗎‭ ‬一向不買紀念品的我不知道為什麼這次到了約旦好像就破功了‭ ‬但是我後來還是買了‭ ‬因為心裡有股莫明奇妙的慾望要這個銅幣‭ ‬也不知道是為什麼‭ ‬我應該是當了一次凱子‭ ‬但是我還是買的蠻快樂的
之後我又碰到一位推銷驢子的當地人‭ ‬討價還價後‭ ‬15約旦幣從寶藏殿到山頂的神廟‭ ‬回程在繞道另一神廟‭ ‬再回到寶藏殿‭ ‬一般這樣的路程走路來回也要2-3小時‭ ‬有8-9百階梯要爬‭ ‬我從來都沒有騎過驢子‭ ‬價格也覺得便宜‭ ‬事實是太低了點‭ ‬所以就上了驢子‭ ‬一晃一晃的繼續往山頂的神廟去‭ ‬路上經過羅馬城Abraham‭ ‬說回程再照相‭ ‬先往山頂去‭ ‬就在要上山爬樓梯時‭ ‬看到兩個熟悉的身影安迪和潔西‭ ‬他們已經在回程的路上了‭ ‬我們寒暄了一下‭ ‬交換了電子郵件信箱‭ ‬互相道別後‭ ‬我們就各奔前程‭ ‬我開始騎驢子爬山‭ ‬騎驢子在平地上就好像在騎馬‭ ‬但是騎驢子爬山是個蠻特別的經驗‭ ‬爬了不久後發現‭ ‬山路階梯是越來越難走‭ ‬而且在高處的地方‭ ‬甚至有一小段是狹窄的平路‭ ‬一邊是山壁另一邊就是摔下去準沒命的懸崕我是騎的心驚膽跳要是媽媽知道一定擔心死了另一點有趣的是驢子很多時候他也不走階梯而是走旁邊的斜坡地就這樣有驚無險的騎到了山頂的神廟不過驢子並沒有在神廟停了下來他又繼續的在我到神廟旁邊一處更高的懸捱邊 ‭ ‬那裡有非常壯觀的風景‭ ‬似乎好像可以看到以色列‭ ‬就在這個地方‭ ‬有一個年輕人搭了帳篷擺了一個攤子‭ ‬Hebron說是他的朋友‭ ‬他就在棚子旁的毯子上休息‭ ‬我則是拿起攝影機和相機拼命照相‭ ‬之後Hebron叫我也到毯子上坐‭ ‬休息一下‭ ‬棚子主人倒了一杯約旦傳統熱茶給我喝‭ ‬寒暄幾句話‭ ‬Hebron彈起吉他‭ ‬另一位吹起簫子‭ ‬我則繼續喝我的茶‭ ‬此時我心中對這兩位陌生人有了一種尊重和羨慕‭ ‬Bedoniun族人在這麼惡劣的自然環境下‭ ‬除了認真工作‭ ‬也會享受很單純的生活（待續）

準時在飯店門口和安迪他們碰面行李放到後車廂就出發了我們先去加油站加油之後很容易的找到出城的道路因為澳洲是在右側開車當地是跟台灣一樣的在左側所以就由我負起司機的任務我們的第一個目的地是一處在山谷偏僻的溫泉瀑布在路上開了2小時就快到目的地時還發了兩件有趣的事一件是在荒郊野外沒有人煙得路上我們看到兩位背包族老外沿著路邊走我們三人覺得他們實在是太厲害了因為這種前不著村後不著路的偏僻山谷裡他們怎們到這裡看到荒涼的黃土山丘加上豔陽高照的大太陽我們決定發揮自助旅人的愛心載他們一程車子緩緩的在他們的前面停下來詢問之下他們德國人是一對父子也是要去相同的地點 (待續）

早上租車公司的人提早15分鐘抵達飯店‭ ‬司機是位很有禮貌的中年人‭ ‬叫做Haldron‭ ‬我先和他討論今天的行程‭ ‬我的計畫是先到Madaba教堂看馬賽克中古時代的地圖‭ ‬之後到據說是摩西死後埋葬的山丘Mount Nebo‭,‬‭ ‬這地方同時也是高處看風景的地方‭ ‬接著到死海海灘‭ ‬最後到北端看另一古蹟‭ ‬Um Qais和欣賞鄰國以色列黎巴嫩的風景‭ ‬聽起來很精彩‭ ‬但是Haldron說時間可能不夠‭ ‬無法到北端的古蹟去‭ ‬結果是下午在視情況決定

安迪和潔西也準時的出現在飯店門口‭ ‬就這樣我們上車出發‭ ‬在車內我們閒聊和自我介紹‭ ‬安迪是工程估價員construction estimator‭ ‬潔西是澳洲航空空服員‭ ‬兩位都是24歲‭ ‬是已經交往4年的男女朋友‭ ‬兩位跟我謝謝給他們機會和我一起旅行‭ ‬晚上他們要帶我去一家當地的餐廳吃飯撩表心意

第一站Madaba很快就到了‭ ‬但是教堂正在聚會要10:30‭ ‬後才開放‭ ‬所以就先到市區逛逛‭ ‬潔西並沒有意思逛街所以就我和安迪兩人‭ ‬市區實在很小‭ ‬沒有五分鐘就逛完了‭ ‬路上‭ ‬安迪說潔西其實並不喜歡約旦‭ ‬一直吵這要搭下一班飛機離開到倫敦找朋友‭ ‬安迪則是當她嘴邊說說‭ ‬並不認真的回應‭ ‬我後來才發現因為潔西工作的關係‭ ‬他們是使用員工旅遊卷‭ ‬可以搭成星空聯盟star alliance的班機‭ ‬機票費用只要一般的十分之一‭ ‬所以在來到約旦前‭ ‬（他們比我早到一天）‭ ‬已經去過東京和Dublin‭ ‬回到教堂前‭ ‬haldron說如果有要買死海的紀念品‭ ‬建議在這裡買‭ ‬我們就到商店去逛‭ ‬潔西很有經驗的和老闆討論產品起來‭ ‬因為他以前就有使用過死海的土‭ ‬全身敷上保養皮膚‭ ‬蠻滿意的‭ ‬老闆知道我市台灣來的‭ ‬很高興的告訴我他去過台灣多次‭ ‬因為他的工廠機械是在台灣買的‭ ‬我最後買了死海的土和臉部的保養品‭ ‬潔西也買了一些‭ ‬10:30教堂前的廣場人數多了三四倍‭ ‬都是觀光客等著入場（1元約旦幣）‭ ‬我們找個英文的團就跟進去參觀‭ ‬這個地圖是有史以來第一張聖經時期中東的詳細地圖從北現在的土耳其到南端的埃及和西邊的耶路撒冷‭ ‬有趣的是地圖右手邊不是東邊而是北邊‭ ‬所以剛剛看還會搞不太清楚方向‭ ‬目前地圖所剩下的部份非常少‭ ‬可能不到1/10‭但是重要的城市如耶路撒冷還在

參觀完後‭ ‬我們出發往Mount Nebo出發‭ ‬大約20‭ ‬分鐘的車程就抵達‭ ‬一元入場費‭ ‬走了一小段的山坡路‭ ‬來到了最高點處‭ ‬往西看‭ ‬可以看到寬廣的約旦河谷和在山坡上的巴勒斯坦Jericho‭ ‬世界最古老的城市‭ ‬就是在這裡摩西被告知眼前所看到的土地‭ ‬就是主所答應的promised land‭ ‬山頭上也有一些古蹟包括教堂和馬賽克圖‭ ‬教堂裡剛好有信徒聚會唱詩歌好不熱鬧‭ ‬事實上‭ ‬摩西的墓地已經無法確認‭ ‬不曉得到底葬在山頂哪一部份‭ ‬參觀了這些地方‭ ‬覺得舊約聖經的故事還真的有點有趣‭ ‬參觀約半小時後‭ ‬我們又上車往第三站出發死海‭ ‬

路上‭潔西似乎開始顯得比較有興趣‭ ‬因為她並不知道此行會有機會到死海泡水‭ ‬原本他們今天就要搭車到佩特拉‭ ‬所以也沒有帶泳衣和浴巾‭ ‬Haldron說‭ ‬不用擔心‭ ‬海灘那裡可以買的到泳衣

Haldron帶我們到Amman beach是新建好的海灘設施‭ ‬門票4元約旦幣‭ ‬Haldron說他就在門口等我們‭ ‬安迪和潔西則先去買泳衣‭ ‬安迪買了件短褲‭ ‬我們之後一起去男更衣室換衣服‭ ‬安迪跟我賣個關子說潔西買了件一輩子只穿一次的泳衣‭ ‬我不知道他是指布料少還是樣式醜的無法見人‭ ‬謎底揭曉‭ ‬是黑色連身的泳衣‭ ‬讓她很尷尬的是胸前寫‭ ‬Elle Model‭ ‬安迪則是覺得很好笑‭ ‬我倒是沒什麼感覺‭ ‬走到沙灘的地方‭ ‬安迪發現一家人剛好要離開‭ ‬於是我們就接收他們的三張沙灘椅和太陽傘‭ ‬真巧‭ ‬也省了額外的租椅子和洋傘的錢‭ ‬東西放好後‭ ‬往們就衝向海邊
死海的水很乾淨可以直接看到海泥水裡沒有生物所以叫做死海水溫並不冷其實是非常適合下水走下水去並沒有感到異常的情況但當我一坐下來並往後躺時神奇的事情發生了整個人毫不費力的在水中飄了起來換個姿勢用趴的一樣是 “傑克這太神奇了“的漂浮在水面上嬉戲玩一陣子開始另一個重頭戲海泥護膚
據說死海的海泥含有非常豐富的礦物質勢超優質的護膚天然極品我們三位就互相挖海泥抹身體全身就只有頭髮和有衣服的地方沒抹大約30分鐘後海泥就乾了變硬最後在去用淡水把海泥洗掉就這樣我們在海灘玩耍了2小時一些有備而來的觀光客帶來了空的寶特瓶裝了海泥回家用

Haldron 說今天這樣子去不了北部時間有點晚他建議改去附近參觀耶穌受洗的地方有機會到約旦河畔看看我想這樣也好因為我們都覺得有點累了

耶穌受洗的地方因為在以色列和約旦的邊界因安全問題我們必須搭專車約10分鐘再走一段15分鐘的路當初耶穌受洗的地方已經乾枯說明員說是因為兩千年來約旦河有改道的關係最後我們走到約旦河邊水很清涼但是很濁是醫師的我讓我不太感想像當時用這樣的水受洗割包皮的情況
回安曼的路上
路上我們經過一個地標標示我們正在海平線上 Haldron停車下來讓我們照相這個地標蠻有趣的它也比較了死海安曼耶路撒冷的高低度又學了新的地理常識
晚餐
回到了安曼市區到租車公司辦手續之後我就開車回飯店不過路途不順沒有英文路標迷路又繞了一大圈才回到我下禢的旅館約10分鐘的路程開了約30分鐘這時候已經天黑餐廳也都開使營業我們就直接殺到餐廳去很幸運的安迪所說的這家餐廳就在飯店附近我們步行過去原來這家餐廳是安迪昨天的司機介紹的他們昨天就來吃過一次很道地所以決定帶我來餐廳沒有英文菜單按照安迪的說法是告訴店家要幾公斤的肉它就幫你準備甚麼肉都有就是沒豬肉另外也有當地的小菜和醬汁配料當地的飲料是傳統優酪乳大夥叫了一杯試試看跟我們的味道差蠻多只好放棄改喝汽水

吃飽也喝飽了走回飯店我們約定明天早上7:30集合出發安迪他們就搭計程車回旅館去了本來想開車載他們回去但是我想了一下打消了這個主意原因是市區路況完全不熟恐怕會幫倒忙迷路

台北到約旦的航空公司似乎目前沒有什麼選擇‭ ‬還是飛到曼谷之後轉機搭乘約旦皇家航空直飛首都阿曼‭ ‬不過我到了曼谷機場才發現約旦皇家航空直飛首都阿曼的班機有和泰航合作‭ （code-shared flight）‭ ‬所以除了可以向約旦皇家航空買機票‭ ‬也可以向泰航買（重點是可以累積泰航哩數）
11:00 pm 曼谷‭ ‬安曼
曼古出發時間接近半夜‭ ‬飛行時間是搭約9小時‭ ‬抵達安曼是凌晨4-5點‭ ‬飛機是空中巴士A340-200有點舊‭ ‬椅子並不好坐‭ ‬我沒有辦法一覺睡到底‭ ‬餐點品質算一般等級‭ ‬但是蠻大份的‭ ‬在機上有數位泰籍女性空服員‭ ‬服務水準還不錯‭ ‬跟我坐同一排得也很巧是兩位台灣籍工程師要到約旦分公司上班‭ ‬跟其中一位在抵達阿曼的一小時前聊天‭ ‬他們也是第一次到中東國家‭ ‬整個航程算是很安穩‭ ‬就是時間安排的不好

一下飛機就看到Hassan拿著我的名字的牌子‭ ‬這是旅行社的特別服務‭ ‬他之後幫我辦理落地簽證‭ ‬陪我一起通關領取行李‭ ‬出了機場‭ ‬天色還是黑暗‭ ‬開了約30分鐘的高速公路‭ ‬抵達我下的旅館 ‬Crown Plaza Hotel‭ ‬不過我還是要等到搭約6點多才可以check-in Hassan跟我抱歉因為我無法馬上到房間休息‭ ‬我也只好將就配合‭ ‬Hassan‭ ‬跟我約下午兩點見因為這次的機加酒套餐還包括市區遊覽‭ ‬Hassan‭ ‬建議我可以先睡個較調整時差‭ ‬我心裡想那也好‭ ‬因為我剛好早上可以自己去Jerash‭ ‬Hassan‭ ‬並不知道我自己已經有計畫大概的行程‭ ‬在高速公路上一直跟我推銷他們公司的行程‭ ‬我最後跟他說我已經有安排租車‭ ‬他才死了心
check-in後沒多久‭ ‬坐飯店的私家車去Abdali公車站‭ ‬（三塊Dinar‭)‬‭ ‬車站空無一人‭ ‬小貓兩三隻‭ ‬最重要是全是阿拉伯文‭ ‬不過我是老神在在‭ ‬看到人就問‭ ‬Jerash‭ ‬問了5-6位‭ ‬一位小巴裡的人跟我揮手‭ ‬我想應該就是這班車吧‭ ‬我是第二位上車的人‭ ‬大約10分鐘後‭ ‬小巴出發‭ ‬這時車子裡約有5-6位乘客‭ ‬後來在路上陸陸續續上來其他乘客‭ ‬大部分的人一上車還會說一句話‭ ‬我聽不懂‭ ‬但是看其他乘客都回應同樣一句話‭ ‬我也現買現賣‭ ‬跟著一起說‭ ‬我猜大概是早安問候語‭ ‬車子開了約一個小時就到了‭ ‬約七點半‭ ‬Jerash‭ ‬羅馬城就在下車處的左側‭(‬可以看到Hadrian Arch‭ ‬就在左前方‭) ‬過了馬路‭ ‬往上走約三分鐘‭ ‬看到英文指標‭ ‬Car Park‭)‬‭ ‬沿著指標左轉到了停車場‭ ‬也是售票處‭ ‬這才發現開放時間是8:30‭ ‬我算一算還有45分鐘‭ ‬就在附近先自行逛逛‭ ‬因為要促進觀光旅遊入場費也打對折剩2.5‭ ‬Dinar‭.‬

天氣是好的不得了‭ ‬天空藍的不能再藍‭ ‬太陽雖然很大‭ ‬但是有微風輕輕的吹著‭ ‬還蠻舒服‭ ‬不過根據以往的經驗‭ ‬這種天氣還是非常容易晒傷‭ ‬所以我還是把事先準備的白色薄的風衣拿出來穿在身上‭ ‬到後來‭ ‬是變成披在頭上‭ ‬像阿拉伯人戴頭巾一樣‭ ‬至於Jerash到底有多值得一看‭ ‬如果事前有稍作準備功課‭ ‬我想會覺得蠻值得來現場看一看‭ ‬我是今天第一位入城的旅行者‭ ‬在我之後‭ ‬有一對年輕男女‭ ‬女的邊看書邊大聲的念出來和另一位男生分享‭ ‬看他們這們的投入‭ ‬讓我這位走馬看花燈有點慚愧‭ ‬不過雖然我不是看書‭ ‬但是我還是好好的把簡介資料看了一遍‭ ‬大概了解這個地方的始末‭ ‬有趣的是在後來我和他們又碰面了‭ ‬我們就聊了起來‭ ‬交換一下旅遊心得‭ ‬他們昨天才到約旦‭ ‬是澳洲人‭ ‬明天他們要去佩特拉‭ ‬Petra‭ ‬但是還沒決定如何去‭ ‬說到最後‭ ‬我告訴他們‭ ‬如果他們沒有特別計畫‭ ‬歡迎和我一起開車去玩‭ ‬因為明天開始我有租車‭ ‬互相道別後‭ ‬我就繼續我的行程

回程我到下車處的對面搭車‭ ‬公車看不到半輛‭ ‬service taxis三四輛‭ ‬司機一看到我‭ ‬知道我要到Crown Plaza hotel就要價5‭ ‬Dinar‭ ‬我說‭ ‬no‭, ‬expensive‭. ‬他又自己降價到四塊‭ ‬我還是說貴‭ ‬他說我自己坐前面（表示要付兩個人的錢）他又再降一塊‭ ‬我算一下‭ ‬公車到阿答理車站後還是要搭計程車回飯店‭ ‬我也想早點回飯店休息一下‭ ‬多一點的就當買了沒中的樂透‭ ‬後來就接受‭ ‬不過這還是超過市價‭ ‬（約一人0.5‭ ‬Dinar）回到飯店後睡了一覺‭ ‬一直到

Hassan‭ ‬打電話來‭ ‬我匆忙的和他會面‭ ‬搭他的車到市區去繞一繞‭ ‬他開車到先帶我到新開發的阿曼市也是比較富裕的區域‭ ‬他說當地的房子都是用大理石做外牆‭ ‬所以幾乎都是同樣一種顏色‭ ‬大部分的房子都是獨棟別墅每家都有大耳朵在屋頂上‭ ‬又繞道美國大使館前繞一下‭ ‬大使館前有坦克車和實彈軍人站崗‭ ‬不知道為什麼要給我看著個‭ ‬有趣的約旦美國情結‭ ‬之後我們到其它區繞一繞‭ ‬最後到舊市區‭ ‬也是古蹟的所在地‭ ‬阿曼總共有七區而且是分布在起伏很劇烈的山丘地‭ ‬雖然有七區但是阿曼市是不大的‭ ‬另一個有趣的地方是當地沒有所謂的地址‭ ‬郵件都是使用郵政信箱‭ ‬找地方則是用附近顯著的建築物或地標‭ ‬例如我住的旅館是在第六圓環旁‭ ‬告訴計程車司機也是著麼說‭

市區之旅在一個多小時候後結束‭ ‬我回到了旅館‭ ‬肚子突然感到非常餓‭ ‬算一算上一餐是在飛機上吃的‭ ‬也是12個小時之前的事‭ ‬覺得自己也不知不覺加入當地人的Ramadan（齋戒月）的節慶晚餐在旅館餐廳吃自助餐‭ ‬（16‭ ‬Dinar‭)‬‭ ‬我嘗試阿拉伯風味的醬料‭ ‬並不適合我的口味‭ ‬所以還是吃一般西式烹調的食物‭ ‬把肚子鍡的飽飽之後‭ ‬就回到房間‭ ‬沖個澡‭ ‬我突然想起來須打電話通知我的租車公司我的房號‭ ‬另外明天須要一位司機‭ ‬處理完後‭ ‬電話響了起來‭ ‬電話的另一端是早上認識的安迪‭ ‬他說明天要加入我的行程‭ ‬後天一起去佩特拉古城‭ ‬我是有點意外但是想到有人做伴特別是後天要開車走山路Kings Highway到佩特拉‭ ‬也覺得不錯‭ ‬於是約定明天早上9點見面

幸運的一天遲來的三明治 My lucky sandwich

今天上班前先繞道醫院的coffee spot訂了一個燻雞三明治如往常一樣付了錢告訴店員晚一點來拿之後就到急診交班開始忙碌的晚上到了晚上11點多一位護士說到要請另一位同事買鹹酥雞我才突然想到我的半夜午餐三明治還在店裡結果當然是拿不到了因為都幾點了人家早就關門了
過了半夜我去刷卡發現coffee spot的店門雖然是關著但是裡面燈火通明我禁不起誘惑敲敲門一位女生透過門的小縫隙看我一下我趕快說明三明治的事情她叫我等一下三分鐘後她把我的三明治拿出來我連忙說聲謝謝麻煩他了
她笑著回答說 '你不是第一位這很平常的很多人像你一樣錢交了卻沒來拿東西'
我的心情頓時變的很好雖然只是小小三明治但是失而復得的感覺讓人感覺很愉快也非常謝謝那位熱心的小姐

I ordered a chicken sandwich in Coffee Spot before I started my shift tonight. AS always, I paid first and would pick it up later. But for some reasons I totally forgot and when I looked at the clock, it was 11pm already, the shop was closed. However, the story didn't end here, I walked by the shop after midnight, although the door was closed but the light was on, so I curiously knocked the door, a girl answered me, I told her what happened, 3 minutes later, she gave me my sandwich. She was friendly and told me this is not unusual, a lots people like me, oredered and paid for their foods, but forgot to pick them up.
I feel so good about getting my sandwich, in fact, it is how thing turns out with a happy ending that makes me really happy.

一些同事跟我抱怨我的網誌裏都是ABC 讓人看的'母薩薩' 一點想看的意願都提不起來也覺得太嚴肅要我改用中文寫這樣比較有吸引力......... 其實不想寫中文的原因是我的中打速度實在是慢到不能想像還真麻煩不過應大眾要求我會加強改善多用中文寫東西

Some colleagues told me that my blog is very unattractive, because it is all written in English, it just looks too foreign to Chinese-only readers. Well, the truth is that I write in English because it is much easier and faster, typing in Chinese just takes times. I will try next time in Chinese to make everybody happy.

A student is going to the Mediterranean Emergency Medicine Congress

A wonderful student who rotated in our ED has been granted a sponsorship to attend the 3rd Mediterranean Emergency Medicine Congress by a Foundation, it all happened one day the student and I walked by the hallway and I saw the notice on the wall about this sponsorship for medical students to attend international medical conferences. I told him that I would go to MEMC in Nice, and if he was interested he should apply so we could go together, I also told him that medical students going to international conferences are not uncommon, it is opposite to what local doctors or students having in mind, that only professors or attendings go to the conferences. And guess what? he did applied and got the sponsorship. I am very happy for him.

Brian in Taiwan

I spent a week with Brian touring the northern Taiwan including Taroko National Park. I had a great time. So many places were first time visit for me as for Brian. Brain is a fun easy going guy that makes the whole trip so pleasant and enjoyable. Looking forwad to traveling with him again.

Shopping cheers people up

I was sad last couple days. Few bad news hit me recently, the worse one was NO promotion for this year. Anyway, I was off from work yesterday, so I wondered around the shopping center, I ended up in a sale place for Abercrombie & Fitch. The salesgirl was very persuasive, I ended up buying 2 washout jeans, 3 t-shirts. They cost me a fortune, but surprisingly I felt so good afterward. And my blue mood was totally gone, adios.
Shopping really cheers people up, even for men. I still feel good now.

Telephone call

One of my favorite colleagues called 10 minutes ago to tell me about a patient I saw yesterday was HIV positive. I was sleeping when the phone rang, I was not particular excited, the reason he called was not to tell me about this , the real reason was that that patient had emergent operation for his wound, and the operation room staffs called my colleagues and yelled at him for not telling them about the fact. My colleague himself did not know about the patient HIV status until they called, he was polite enough to explain that he was "innocent", In fact, a "victim" just like everyone in operation room. .......
The truth is that here health care providers still see HIV as a 'must -die" curse. I don't think those nurses in OR have right to blame my colleague, isn't that universal precaution applied to every patient? Treat everyone as if they all have deadly disease.
I was to suppose to sleep until late morning, now I am up already and can't go back to bed.

I delivered a baby

Everything happened so quickly, just 20 minutes ago, a women came to ED screaming
"Baby's head is out already"
The mom was rashed into our resuscitation room, I quickly put on the sterile glove, asked mom to put her legs up against the handrails. The top of the head appearedpartially in the vagina opening. I asked mom to push hard when next contraction came. Few seconds later, contraction came and mom just pushed hard and screamed hard too. Luckily, the baby came out smoothly and healthy.
It was a special moment when the baby was delivered, the baby crying sounded as a celebration of coming to our world and the room was full of joy and happiness.
It is not common to deliver baby in emergency deparment locally, but for some unknown reason I had delivered two babies in a month in my ED. And thanks Gods, all babies were fine and arrived to our world safely.

Fruit gift box

While I was eating, a female colleague sitting in front of me pointing to a fruit gift box on the coffee table, and she called out my name,
"Doc Vic, that's for you, the fruit gift box".
I thought she was just joking, I kept on eating my lunch.
Then she said "there is a sticky note on the box with your name and the name of the gift giver".
What's that name again? I asked with a curious voice.
" x#o*@"
What? ......... A female name did not ring a bell at all.
One male staff made fun of me as I jointed the club of secret admirer.
Well! I didn't think I was that attractive or charming to have a secret admirer. But to tell the truth, I did felt good anyway...

It has been a while to come to visit my own blog, a lots happened to me the last few months, a lots first-time stuffs. A week ago just for fun I created a webpage where there are several short movies of my recent travel. And totally out of my expectation, one of the movies became so popular and was viewed more than 3000 times in the first 24 hours. Now, the counter number is still moving up, I just checked the webpage and the count was 8564. This is unbelievable! And I am so excited!!

Doctor, it is all your fault

Being an emergency physician really takes gut to be one. Several doctors including me are facing an allegation of patient mismanagement at this moment, it started with poor communication between a colleague of mine and a patient’s family. They nearly had argument in ED, and later I took over the case as the shift changed. I didn’t have any quarrel with any members of family but patient made a worse turn in outcome, he suddenly had right side weakness and it became apparent that this patient had stroke. I don’t believe I have done anything wrong or did not do things that could have changed patient’s progression. Legally and morally I stand firmly on the ground as I have done the best for this patient. It just that this incident strikes me deeply in my heart. What I have done to deserve this? Nowadays, I have to say that not a lots, but increasingly the patients and their family take our work for granted if you treat them and make them well, because that’s doctors’ job. When things are not going the way the family plan, or the patient’s condition became worse, doctors are to be blamed for or be responsible. I am not sure if this has to do with our culture, I have seen so many times in my own department in Taipei, but I don’t recall similar issues when I was training in the states. This is really a big stress for being an ED physician here, most local patients came to ED expecting a “quick fix” of their problem as oppose to going to a regular clinic/medical office for a complete evaluation and treatment. And the nature of acute state of the illness, family and the patients want “rapid” change in a better way in ED. They think you are neither incompetent nor not caring enough to their lovely one when patient is not feeling better. It is all doctors’ faults.
What do I do when someone saying that to me? What do I do? What have I done to deserve this? I am a doctor, I am not God. I can do my best to help every single patient, but I can’t make everyone lived happily and healthy.

Yesterday's blue mood

Yesterday I was in a bad mood, well! blue mood actually. The minute I stepped into my emergency department, the blue cloud came over my head. The emergency room was full of the patients, my department is small, I was the only doctor to care all patients with medical problems. There were more than 20 patients left from day shift, plus 3 new patients waiting to be seen. 15 minutes later after arrival in ED, my colleague called me and told me about the update of a patient complaining of ED service, the development was not promising and in fact upsetting. Suddenly my blue mood was worsened, I felt speechless but at the same time, I felt like to raise my voice and yield at someone at once. Then I realized that my patient was sitting right in front of me, staring at me with a puzzle look, as if the doctor was going crazy soon. In the other end, one nurse was telling me new complains from patients in the observation area regardless no attention to her from me at all.
Life goes on, yesterday was history already, I survived as usual.

I have been to many outdoor concerts, but this one is my first one that I have to wear a raincoat. It was a raining day in Taipei, not pouring really hard, but enough to open an umbrella or wear a raincoat.
Another "first time" in this concert is that I have a front row seat, yes, the very first row. The ticket costs me NT 6.000. At the end of concert, people just get off the seat and gather in front of the stage. Sr. John is very frinedly to fans, he shakes hands, signs autographs on CDs for audiences.
The concert is great, not the typical popstar concert, it is all about the music, he sings and plays the piano. The stage is pretty simple, no exotic dancers. His voice is immaculate, and just sound like in CD. He is really talented.

Never say "good day" in ED

The minute that I logged off, my ED (emergency department) was flooded immediately with patients, I had a patient who was DOA ( dead on arrival), an old man who had a hole on his neck can't breath, and one young man vomited fresh blood several times at home. And if it were not bad enough, one grandpa who was very pale and had tarry stools inside his pants....... Gee! I am not really a superstitious guy, but there are something you just don't want to say or do if working in ED. Saying " good day " is one of them. Well... From the other hand, I can always think in this way that hospital is not paying me just to sit in front of a monitor, typing my thoughts and not seeing real people and savin lives.

Not really knowing what to say on my fiest blog post,........ actually I am working at this moment in the hospital. Thanks God! Although it is a Saturday, my ED is not "flooded" yet with sick people. I spend most of my time this morning seeing patients stayed overnight. Let some people go home and few just need to stay a little longer before I can let them go home. I am also able to admit those really sick people to the wards for further care but ICU, the intensive care unit (they are always full), ...anyway I consider today so far has been a good day for me.
